The Pro and Cons of Tattoos

So I told a friend that I wanted a tattoo and he was like never ever never and am like why, his reason was that I wont look responsible.
But we should always know that there is a good and bad side to everything, tattoos included. Since tattooing has been associated with everything from high rankings in certain social statuses to a symbol of criminality, tattoos definitely have some serious pros and cons in modern times.

Lets start with the pros

Pro 1: Self Expression

Your tattoo can be a truly unique expression of your personal story and what you stand for. And with the widespread popularity of tattoos, it’s relatively easy to find a reputable artist near you whose speciality is exactly what you’re looking for.

Pro 2: Technology

With the use of technology, we make the most of innovations. We now have a variety of high-quality pigments and machines with better performance. There are also many improvements on sanitation and aftercare. Pretty much, we don't have anything to worry about with tattoos because there are constant changes in making the experience as safe as possible and more comfortable for the clients.

Pro 3: To preserve memories of a loved one who passed away

People often get tattoos to cherish the memory of a loved one who has passed away. I definitely get that.

Pro 4: Tattoos can open a door to a whole new community

While you might not get that job anywhere you desire, the tattoo community still has some amazing alternatives to explore. Whether it’s going to conventions or getting involved in the alternative art scene, there is an incredible community behind the tattoo scene that supports one another in times when mainstream society won’t.

Pro
5: A tattoo is your own work of custom art

A picture says a thousand words and your tattoos are your life story, regardless of the individual meanings behind them. The type of tattoos you get reflect on who you are as a person, and the individual style that each artist has helps make your tattoos just that much more unique. Tattoos are literally a physical way to have your own personal and custom piece of art on your body that you get to have for the rest of your life.

Now the Cons

Con 1: Pain and the chance of getting an infection

The pain we feel when making a tattoo and there is risk of infection from each tattoo, such as from non-sterile needles or ink that contain dangerous substances.

Cons 2: Tattoo and Ageing

Maybe the tattoo will look attractive at the age of 20, but it would be a strange thing after the age of 50.

Cons 3: Hard to erase out

Tattoo is permanent and can not be removed easily, if you want to erase it, it does not always work 100 percent and the price is very expensive and also after years, the colour can fade or appear fault lines of the drawing.

Cons 4: Fashion and trends always changes, you could have a trendy tattoo now, and be quite ancient the next few years.

Now lets talk about the effect tattoo has on public perception.

Tattoos create a division in society between attraction and rejection, tattoos also build a wall between people based on each individuals alternating view of tattoos.Tattooing in modern society exists in a state of complexity. Increased popularity of tattoos, as evident by its prevalence in the media and the growing numbers of tattooed individuals, seems to suggest society’s acceptance of tattooing as a social norm.

If you are thinking of getting a new tattoo you need to realise that tattoos are still considered taboo in many professional jobs. Some individuals still despise the idea of body art, and reject the claim that tattoos are a result of artistic expression. The issue of tattoos has been examined from an employer perspective as well. Tattoos use to be considered part of a counterculture, that those with tattoos deviated from those of mainstream society. For years many people associated tattoos with the likes of gangs, bikers and other groups that were thought to operate outside of the social centre. However in today’s society, tattoos have gained a wider social acceptance and more people, men and woman alike, are getting them. People with tattoos work in a vast variety of industries and hold entry-level jobs.
Though tattoos have become more accepted in society as a whole, there is still that discrimination present against individuals with tattoos. Certain employers would definitely think twice about hiring a young lady that sports a vast amount of sleeve tattoos, unfortunately many would judge this young lady not on her abilities but based on her bodily artworks. And this is an unfortunate essence for today’s youth who have fully embraced tattoos as a means of expression.

Today tattooing has become so prevalent despite its retention of marginal characteristics that society is being forced to develop a new perhaps conflicted perception of tattooing. The media along with a rebellious youth of today have attempted to paint an image of tattooing as a pro‐social and self‐expressive art form applicable to every member of society. Yet as quickly as judgements are made, they are not quickly forgotten. Modern society could be unable to grant tattooing acceptance because of its long history of stigmatisation and because of those who resent them.

The overall perception of tattoos as inherently unprofessional may be leaving some inksters with a lingering case of tattoo regret.
So is tattoo a YES or NO?
