Self Esteem, Self Identity, Or Low Self Esteem?

Hey fam, we will be talking about self that is you today, but before then lets take a look on our major hit point for the day:

  • SELF ESTEEM
  • SELF IDENTITY
  • LOW SELF ESTEEM
  • SELF WORTH
  • SELF DISCOVERY
We can talk about fashion and all but whatever or however good we look starts from the inner side of you. How do you want to be addressed? The man who is a sadist or the happy or ever joyous man or The Woman is always depress or the Queen who steals everyone heart with her smile.
I issues battling with my emotions at some point and i got names like Leesah the sadist or the girl that looks like she has the whole weight of the world on her shoulders.......lol
Before i go any further lets take a look at some of the definition of our hit point.....
  • self-esteem reflects a person's overall subjective emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self.
  • self-identity is a collection of beliefs about oneself.  
 Identity and self esteem are closely related and your sense of identity has to do with who you think you are and how you perceive yourself. It is how you define yourself, how you value yourself and a sense of self worth.
It is important we develop self esteem and self worth because low self-esteem can lead to serious physical and mental health issues. Low self esteem is no respecter of age, parents you will want to check up your kids.


We showing signs of low self-esteem have a damaged sense of self-worth that most likely began in childhood. Adolescent and teenage girls are at particular risk of developing low self-esteem because of the many forms of media--television, magazines, advertising and websites--that emphasize impossible standards of beauty and appearance.

What causes low self esteem in people?
  • systematic punishment, neglect or abuse
  • failing to meet parental standards
  • failing to meet peer-group standards
  • being on the receiving end of other people's stress or distress.
  • belonging to a family or social group that other people are prejudiced towards
  • an absence of praise, warmth, affection or interest
  • being the odd one out, at home or at school.
Sometimes negative beliefs about yourself are caused by experiences later in life, such as workplace bullying or intimidation, abusive relationships, persistent stress or hardship, or traumatic events.

 So what are the aftermath of low self esteem?
1. Low self-esteem is limiting.
If your self-confidence is too low, you will be unable to ask for what you want or set limits on what you don't want.
2. Low self-esteem is stressful.
When your self-esteem is not high enough, you'll be too anxious to please and you'll hide your own thoughts and feelings to avoid disagreements.
3. Low self-esteem is self-destructive.
Without self-esteem, you will lack the belief that you deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. You will tolerate hurtful behavior from others too often and for too long.
4.  Low self-confidence is unattractive.
With low self-confidence you might be projecting neediness and desperation. That is certainly not attractive or sexy.
5. Low self-esteem involves fear.
Without enough self-esteem, you will be afraid to trust or show your vulnerability.

 How do you overcome low self esteem? 
 1. Be authentic. Drop pretenses just to please someone else.
Hard as it is and vulnerable as you will feel, let go of your pretenses. Just be your authentic self. At first, the fear is crippling, but if you manage to get past the initial fear and take the plunge, it is so liberating. And that freedom to be who you are without excuses or pretenses paves the way for a much healthier self-esteem.

2. Grant yourself the permission to make mistakes. Vow to learn from them.
Your reaction to your failures, as much as your successes, defines you. You can beat yourself up over a failure, or you can give yourself the permission to make mistakes and vow to learn from them. Let’s face it, whichever route you take, you will still make some mistakes in your life. One approach chips away at your self-esteem, the other helps you become a better person.

3. Learn to say no. Say what you mean and mean what you say.                                                      Break out of that habit. Instead, just say what you mean and mean what you say. You don’t have to be rude about it, just be firm and decisive. Developing the ability to speak your mind in a kind but firm manner, and to really deliver on your promises, will go a long way in building lasting self-esteem.

4. Take responsibility for your actions.
Always be prepared to say “I’m sorry” followed by “How can I fix it?” and make sure you put in genuine effort to fix things in a way that is acceptable to everyone involved. It is a lot of effort, but a healthy self-esteem is rooted in knowing that you always do the right thing.

5. Immerse yourself in whatever you decide to do.Quit worrying about your choices.              
Constantly worrying about your choice as you make the tea will not do any good to you, the tea, or anyone else around you. Immerse yourself in what you do.
Your self-esteem is a measure of how worthy you think you are. Don’t look outward for affirmations. Set your own expectations of who you should be and then do all you can to live up to those expectations. You have it in you to be the person you can be proud of.

6. Help others.
No amount of fortune, fame, success, beauty, intelligence, or strength can give you the same sense of personal gratification or a sense of purpose as a genuine “thank you” from someone you help.
When you stop being so wrapped up in your own worries, sorrows, and melodrama and start being a part of the bigger picture, with a role to play in this universe, your sense of self-worth and self-esteem gets a whole new definition. Give freely. Help whenever you can. You will get more than what you thought you ever needed.
